How to Care for Your Football Flag So It Lasts All Season
Your flag sees a lot: rain, wind, beer showers and the occasional stray pie. A bit of TLC will keep it looking smart and extend its life. Here’s how to maintain your flag so it’s always ready for matchday.
Cleaning Your Flag
Most modern flags are printed on polyester, which is easy to clean. Hand-wash your flag in lukewarm water with a mild detergent. Avoid bleach and fabric softener, as they can weaken fibres. If your banner is particularly grubby, soak it for 10 minutes before gently agitating the fabric.
Drying It Properly
Never wring your flag; instead, lay it flat on a towel or hang it in a shaded area. Direct sunlight can fade colours over time. Polyester dries quickly, so it’ll be ready in a few hours. Make sure it’s completely dry before packing it away to prevent mildew.
Storing Your Flag
Roll your flag instead of folding it to avoid creases that can stress the material. Store it in a breathable bag or tube away from damp environments. Don’t leave it at the bottom of your kit bag – dirt and moisture will lead to mould and damage.
Repairing Small Tears
Little tears happen, especially on windy days. A bit of fabric repair tape or a needle and thread can stop a small rip from turning into a big one. If the damage is significant, get in touch – we can often fix or replace a panel.
Avoid Overexposure
Try not to leave your flag hung up outside between matches. Constant exposure to UV rays and weather will shorten its lifespan. Bring it in after the final whistle, dry it and store it properly.
